Back at NYC Jewelry Week 2023 with Galerie Noel Guyomarc’h
Vivi Lamarre
Once again this year, I'm delighted to present a selection of contemporary jewelry pieces with Galerie Noel Guyomarc'h as part of NYCJW 2023, taking place all over the city from November 13th to 19th.
For its fourth participation at New York City Jewelry Week, Montreal-based Galerie Noel Guyomarc'h will set up his pop-up gallery in the heart of the Nolita district for the duration of the show. I am pleased to be part of the beautiful selection the gallery will be showcasing for the occasion, also including latest creations by artists Monika Brugger, Ambroise Degenève, Marianne Anselin, Aurélie Guillaume, Despo Sophocleous, Heejoo Kim, Silvie Altschuler, Gabrielle Desmarais and many others.
These one-of-a-kind pieces (above) are recent creations part of my series Winding Ways I started in 2021, exploring the theme of non linear journey. These two specific pieces explore the seasons in our life during which our path is tortuous and everything seems to go off. It took me years to realize human lives will most definitely never be made out of straight lines. I felt a beauty about making jewelry out of these seasons and being able to wear them around your body, and adorning yourself of these slices of your life. The whole series has been about celebrating the detours we take and the choices we make, thus forming our own very unique and winding pathway.
Other pieces on view during NYCJW are a series of wooden locket necklaces I realized in 2021. This series includes three statement necklaces of different wood species; walnut, maple and a combination of walnut and cherry wood. These one-of-a-kind pieces have been thought out so that they can be opened and closed, thus changing the visual appearance of the piece. Through this sliding system the wearer is able to intervene and adjust the shape of the keyhole to his liking.
